Overview
For the Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 exhibition Strange and Familiar: Three Views of Brighton, curator Martin Parr commissioned three acclaimed photographers to create new work in response to the city.
Acclaimed Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi was drawn to the spectacular sight of thousands of starlings flocking around Brighton Pier, a phenomenom known as a murmuration. Kawauchi is fascinated by the ephemeral nature of this phenomenon and, continuing with the theme of the flock, she has also trailed groups of people through the city, photographing them unseen from the top of a double decker bus.
