Brighton Picture Hunt by Carmen and Alec Soth

Price: £15.00
Overview
For the Brighton Photo Biennial 2010 exhibition Strange and Familiar: Three Views of Brighton, curator Martin Parr commissioned three acclaimed photographers to create new work in response to the city.
For his commission, American photographer Alec Soth had initailly planned to follow a photographer at the Brighton Argus newspaper. However, on entry to the UK he was forbidden from photographing by UK Customs, as he did not have the correct work visa. Initially unsure what to do, he came up with the creative solution of asking his seven year old daughter Carmen to take the pictures.
The resulting captivating photographs, shot by Carmen and edited by her father, present a child's view of the world - unselfconcious, and able to capture the world from a low angle while going unnoticed by adults.
